Challenge. While at Yoobee School of Design, we were given a brief to illustrate and design a spread of an article of our choice, which would be a feature article in any New Zealand or Australian magazine. The illustration must mirror the contents of the article, and the style will have to be influenced heavily by the magazine.
Strategy and end result. I chose Frankie magazine to feature the article in, and after analyzing the style of Frankie magazine, and reading and deciphering the article (which was about op-shopping and finding vintage treasures second-hand), I thought it was important to capture the slightly rough around the edges, yet beautiful nature of op-shopping. I chose subtle, washed-out colours to represent vintage, and chose pencil and water-colour pencils as a medium to give the illustration a soft, unique feel. I created two full spreads. World Sweet World featured the finished article on their website.
